9 August - Congratulations to Pui Yan Chow on running 1:30.40, a new personal best, in the women's half marathon at the 2009 World Police and Fire Games in Vancouver on 9 August.  Yan also competed in the orienteering and mountain bike competitions the previous week!

11 October - good news from Chicago where Shen Li ran 3:19.40 and Daniel Senft ran 3:22 for the FM.  Neither had run an official HM or FM before.  Picture: Shen and Daniel after the race.

Congratulations to six SportPlus athletes - Pauline Tse, Armando Osmani, Ibe Chan, Steve Hui, Sean Ko and Edwin Wong - who competed in the ITU Olympic Distance triathlon at Disneyland in Hong Kong on Sunday 18 October.  Steve Hui (6th in 2009) finished second in his age-group while Pauline Tse repeated her third-place finish from last year in a new PB.  The picture shows Pauline, Steve and Armando after the race.

Following the excellent results in the Chicago FM in October, more good results from New York, and from Athens, Greece, and Hangzhou, China.  Running in the NY Marathon on 2 November, Jacqueline Rohrbach ran her first FM in 3:28.  Previously, Jacqueline had run a 1:49 HM.   Anne Charron also ran a new PB of 3:55 in NY.  On 8 November, Wong Ka Wai (see picture) ran 2:51 for the FM in Hangzhou - his first FM since joining SportPlus - while Andrea Fiori completed his first FM in Athens.

Results on Sunday 6 December 2009:

  • Fresh from her 3:28 first-time FM in NY, Jacqueline Rohrbach ran 1:38 in the Angkor Wat HM.  Jacqueline's previous best: 1:49 in the same race one year ago.  Jacqueline has now started her preparations for Boston.
  • In Macau, Daniel Yeung ran 1:26 for the HM (previous best 1:29) and Eddie Lo set a new PB of 4:37 in the FM (previous best 5:10).  Daniel will move up to the SCM in February.
  • The previous weekend, a  number of athletes ran the UNICEF 10k or HM as a training run as part of their preparation for the SC HM or FM; as you know, the use of competitive races as a training tool is a major feature of our programmes.  Runners who completed the UNICEF HM included Wong Ka Wai who ran 1:19 then ran an additional 10km to make up his long run for the week!

Results from the Taipei marathon on Sunday, 20 December.  Angus Chao (PB 3:06.11) ran his first FM after joining SportPlus and ran a controlled race to run 3:07.53.  Johnny Mok (PB 3:23) ran what should have been a controlled HM 'fun run'  but, in the end, ran the FM because he couldn't exit the freeway!  No fun!

Results from Xiamen (on 12 December): Wong Ka Wai new PB of 2:41; Angus Chao new PB of 3:03.

Results from Mizuno HM on 10 January - Wong Ka Wai 1:18 training run; Daniel Yeung new PB of 1:26; Pauline Tse new PB of 1:46.
